What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a gentle therapeutic practice that involves the insertion of very fine, single-use sterile needles into specific points on the body or into areas of muscular tension.

Rooted in the traditions of Chinese medicine, acupuncture has been practised for thousands of years. Over time, both the instruments and the needling techniques have been carefully refined, creating a treatment that is both precise and deeply supportive of the body.

From a modern biomedical perspective, acupuncture is known to encourage the release of the body’s natural pain-relieving chemicals, such as endorphins. It may also support healthy circulation and influence areas of the brain involved in pain and regulation.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, health is seen as a reflection of the smooth and harmonious flow of Qi — our vital life energy. When this flow becomes disrupted or out of balance, we may begin to experience discomfort or illness. Acupuncture works gently to restore this movement, helping the body return to a state of balance, ease, and natural regulation.

Rather than forcing change, acupuncture invites the body back toward its own innate capacity for healing.

“Chinese medicine can nurse the senses of ourselves, our awareness; at the same time, acupuncture and herbs can promote our direct experience of awareness.”-
